Biographical details
Marian completed a Bachelor of Science at the University of Tasmania in 1999, majoring in Plant Science. In her Honours year, she studied clinal variation in the Tasmanian Yellow Gum complex with molecular and morphological markers. Marian’s PhD project continued in the research area of eucalypt genetics, focusing on the genetic control of reproduction in Eucalyptus globulus.
Marian has worked as a research assistant in eucalypt genetic projects, conducting both molecular studies and large-scale controlled crossing programs. However, in 2007 Marian began working in the Centre for Marine Science at UTAS providing administrative support to the Director of the Quantitative Marine Science PhD Program. This led her to become increasingly interested in marine science and ocean observation and she joined the IMOS Office in July 2007.
Outside work, Marian enjoys cooking, gardening, swimming, walking her dog Nigella, and traipsing around the state with her partner, Rob, looking for the “perfect” eucalypt/tree/flower to photograph!
